BRIEF ON PROFESSOR ISRAEL OLATUNJI ORUBULOYE I was born 58 years ago in Are-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government area of Ekiti State. I had my primary school education at the United Primary School Are/Afao and secondary school education at the Egbe-Oba High School, Ikole-Ekiti and high school education at Oduduwa College, Ile-Ife. I attended University of Ibadan from 1969-74 and the Australian National University from 1975-78 where I obtained my B.Sc. M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees respectively. I worked at the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), Ibadan for nearly ten years before I transferred my service to the University of Ado-Ekiti in October 1983 as one of the pioneering staff. In the last 30 years I have contributed to research and teaching in Nigeria and overseas in my field of specialization. Administrative Positions Held at the University Level since 1983
Fellowships and Scholarships Received from 1975 to date Professional Accomplishment I was appointed Professor of Sociology on October 20 1989, the first to attain this position among the pioneering staff. Since 1975, I have published 87 papers consisting of books, chapters in books, working papers and articles in both national and international journals. Two-thirds of the books, papers and articles were published after I was appointed Professor. I delivered the First Inaugural Lecture in the Faculty of the Social Sciences and the Third in the University in June 1995. I also supervised the first Ph.D and M.Sc. candidates in the Department of Sociology of the University. I have visited 25 different countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, UK, Europe, North America, South America and Latin America on study leave, study tours, conferences, workshops and seminars between 1975 and November 2003. I have consulted for many national and international organizations on population and health related issues including United Nations (Population Division), the World Bank (Population Division), the Rockefeller Foundation, Battelle Memorial Institute, Washington, D.C., International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), the Swedish International Development Agency, David and Lucile Packard Foundation in the USA, the International Research Centre for Women, Washington D.C. USA. I am currently a lead consultant to the Federal Ministry of Health on Behavioural Context of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. I pioneered research on the Behavioural Context of HIV/AIDS in Africa. My publications have been cited in 224 places on the World Wide Web and runs to 12 pages. I am computer literate in word processing and data management. I have received and managed research grants running to several thousands of dollars from the Rockefeller Foundation, Swedish International Development Agency, the Population Council, New York and the Australian National University from 1991 to date. I received the first international research grant in the university and the research programme was funded for eight years, from 1991to 1998. I was one of the three members of staff sent by the University during the tenure of Professor I.O.Oladapo, the pioneering Vice-Chancellor to the late Dr Lawrence Omoloyo to solicit his financial support for the University. The outcome of our effort was the donation of the Omolayo Building to the University. In recognition of my service to the University, I received commendations from the Appointment and Promotion Committee of the University in 1984 and from the University Council in 1996. The University also honoured me with a meritorious long service award in March 2003 in recognition of my 20 years of unbroken and selfless service to the university. I am happily married to Chief (Mrs) Modupe Olufunke Orubuloye with four children, three boys and a girl.
